This is where it all begins. Most of the heucheras that we all love are propagated from tissue culture. In 1980 I went to Briggs nursery tissue culture location with my Enviromental Horticulture class. It was the opposite of everything I thought I knew about growing plants. When I think of growing things I think of the earth, getting dirty and Scarlet Ohara saying 'As God is my witness, I will never go hungry again', not a steril enviroment with booties to cover our shoes and space suits to keep the little plants from any germs that might be on us. It was a very interesting trip. Briggs propagates rhododendrons by tissue culture. It was a few years later when Terra Nova started playing with heucheras. You can see how they do it at the link below. http://www.terranovanurseries.com/gardeners/resources_tissue_culture_process.php h A few years ago I got to visit the Terra Nova Nurseries in Oregon. It was great to see just where all my heucheras come from. It is worth a trip. The display garden is beautiful and full of all my favorites!
